Born in South Korea and trained in France, Da-Min Kim has been Supersoliste (1st Concertmaster) of the Orchestre Philharmonique de l'Opéra de Marseille since 2013, at the intersection of soloist and orchestral musician. Prizewinner at the Canetti, Ginette Neveu, Rodolfo Lipizer and Markneukirchen international competitions, he is supported by the AMOPA and the Cziffra and Banque Populaire Foundations.
Trained at the CNSM in Paris and further shaped by major figures of the violin across Europe, he pursues a career as soloist and chamber musician in France and internationally.
As a soloist, he performs with the Lausanne Chamber Orchestra, the Orchestre Philharmonique de Marseille, the Orchestre Philharmonique du Maroc, the Orchestre du Pays Basque, the Orchestre d'Harmonie des Gardiens de la Paix and the Orchestre de la Légion Étrangère. He is also invited as principal violin by the Orchestre National du Capitole de Toulouse, the Orchestre National des Pays de la Loire, the Orchestre National de Montpellier, the Orchestre de l'Opéra de Toulon, the Ensemble Symphonique Neuchâtel and the Polish National Radio Symphony Orchestra.
He has performed on major stages such as the Concertgebouw in Amsterdam, the Seoul Arts Center, the Théâtre des Champs-Élysées, the Kulturpalast in Dresden and the Oriental Art Center in Shanghai.
A committed chamber musician, he forms the Duo Aïnos with his sister, pianist Da-Hee Kim, prize-winners at the International Chamber Music Competition of Lyon, with whom he recorded the album Tradition chez les modernes (Lyrinx). He also collaborates with the Van Kuijk Quartet, performing at the Salle Cortot in Paris and the Kleine Zaal of the Concertgebouw in Amsterdam.
Since 2023, he has been a professor at the Conservatoire à Rayonnement Régional Pierre Barbizet in Marseille. He plays a violin by Jean-Baptiste Vuillaume (Paris, 1840).
Deeply connected to his roots, he is a member of the "Going Home Project", a cultural initiative founded in South Korea by pianist Yeol Eum Son. Recently, as part of this project, the Sonata for violin and cello by Maurice Ravel, recorded with cellist Woong-Whee Moon, was released on the Naïve label.
